This small wooden bowl is made of black locust which is a very hard, dense and heavy wood that is iridescent when you hold it at the right angle in the light. This black locust plank came from my brother-in-law. He was told it was ironwood which is a common name for many dense, heavy woods but after seeing it in person and showing pictures to a friend who is a tree expert, it turned out to be black locust. This small bowl has a rounded curved taper, undercut rim and a small raised foot.
