Another New E-commerce Platform for Handmade - Handmade.com

One of the artisans on handmade.com

I was the fourth artisan chosen for beta testing the new e-commerce platform, handmade.com. It will go live sometime later this month if all goes well. The parent company, NOVICA, has been around for some time, since 1999, as a global market place for handcrafted, artisan made items. They bill NOVICA as the world’s largest impact marketplace.

Handmade.com will have very strict handmade guidelines. They will have a Village Council where artisans are in the drivers seat. The Village Council, an elected body of artists and cultural stakeholders from around the world, including the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, represents the interests of the seller community, safeguards the mission and shapes the experience of the Handmade.com marketplace.

This will be my fourth e-commerce platform. It is a lot of work to set up a store when you have as many items for sale as I do. I currently have over 140 items listed in my other stores. This new venture couldn’t come at a busier time for me but I was an early adopter of ETSY (almost 16 years now) but it has become extremely overcrowded with questionably sourced, cheap products. Let’s hope handmade.com stays the course.
