Cutting Boards
I’m sure your mother, or some other wise person, told you to never say never. I’ve sure heard it many times in my lifetime. Last year I said I would never make cutting boards again. It was an overreaction. I was angry, disappointed and cheated. A customer had his cutting board next to the hot burner on his stove, it heated quickly, expanded and cracked apart, really badly. This person graduated from Harvard (he still uses his Harvard email address) and just flat out lied to me and PayPal. I had offered to make it into a smaller cutting board at no charge because it was like Humpty Dumpty and all of the kings men couldn’t put it back together again. He insisted on a full refund after using it for several months.
I did not make cutting boards last year but I got a lot of requests to make them. I take great pride in my cutting boards. I take many, many extra steps to make sure that they will not come apart under normal use. There are many, many of my cutting boards in kitchens (and some living rooms) around the world. I have only had one other issue in the hundreds and hundreds of cutting boards I have sold and gifted.
Last year I tore a rotator cuff in my right shoulder. I couldn’t turn bowls. I found that I could still make cutting boards while my shoulder healed. Never say never, remember?
So now I’m making cutting boards, cheese boards and charcuterie boards because you asked me too (and because I could’t turn bowls).
Here is a batch waiting to be photographed and put up on my websites. There are lots more stacks. I better get busy and put them up!
