Inspiration Ebbs and Flows

Inspiration ebbs and flows, at least for me. In the shop it’s easier, I have so many dry green bowls waiting to be finish turned. I walk through the aisles of shelves and pick one that suits me on that day. I also have a wood room with hundreds of shorts and planks that I collected over the last 40 years. If nothing strikes my fancy in the dry bowl area, I head to the wood room.

At the computer it’s a little harder. What do I write about today? Sometimes inspiration to write comes from the shop, a discovery I want to share or a bowl that is really unusual. Sometimes it comes from a task, like sawing bowl blanks on the sawmill. Sometimes it’s a delivery, like the load of logs I got recently.

Today’s inspiration came from a phone call. Last year I heard about a forklift that seemed to meet my criteria. It was small but would lift to 12’. I called the owner who said yes it would be for sale as soon as he finished a project he was working on. That project was to be complete in a few weeks. One thing and another delayed completion for over a year. He called yesterday, his project is finished. I will get to go see it very soon.

Last year we completed the latest addition to the shop. It’s 60’ X 48’ and open on 3 sides. It has a mezzanine that is 36’ X 48’. The mezzanine is for storage but I need a forklift to lift up what I’m storing. I have thousands of board feet of lumber that isn’t quite dry yet and I want to move it, sort it by species and get it ready to sell.

I’ll post pics of the forklift if it comes home with me. In the meantime, I’m inspired.

This isn’t it it but it a 3 wheel hyster similar to this one.
