Natural Edge Bowls

Natural edge bowls can be very beautiful. There is a wonderful contrast between the smooth bowl and the rough bark. The bark edge really captures origin of the bowl. Some of my very favorite bowls are the natural edge ones I’ve turned over the years.

Here is one I turned this week. It is a mulberry burl with radiant honey gold color with lighter sapwood under the bark rim. The color shouts at you. The bark edge and inclusions give it texture.

I just finished a beautiful natural edge cherry burl. I think cherry burl it stunning.

Burls make very nice natural edge bowls but less showy woods can be very pretty with a natural edge. Below is a small walnut bowl with a natural edge.
