Pommele Sapele - Again
I don’t usually write two blog posts on the same subject but I’m making an exception today. I just finished a pommele sapele wooden bowl that has extraordinary figure. Those of you who follow my work know that I really like highly figured wood and this piece certainly fills the bill there. I got the 10’ plank that this bowl was made from over 10 years ago and I’ve been slowly cutting pieces off to make bowls out of. I’ve resisted cutting a spectacular piece out of the middle, instead I’ve cut bowl sized pieces off of the end, finally arriving at this piece yesterday. The other pieces were beautiful too but not this beautiful. This is a once in a career piece of wood and the bowl is gallery or museum quality. Nature did most of the work.
