The Best Laid Plans
Some of you know how much I despise the back-end work of operating a website/ecommerce site. Taking the pictures, making the videos, doing the SEO. I realize that it’s not logical, of course you must do it or there isn’t any content. No content, no sales. The thing is, all of my items are one of a kind so each one has to be photographed, videoed and described. It takes about an hour. I have three different venues, sanderswoodworking.com, ETSY and Goimagine. I put the new items up here on sanderswoodworking and then copy and paste to the other two venues which takes another hour because each venue has its own peculiarities. So, it takes about 2 hours to load a new product onto my three ecommerce outlets. I need all three because they each have a certain market or clientele that they serve.
I am way behind in adding new products since Christmas. I have been making them (it’s the part I do like) I just haven’t set aside the time to do the backend work. I have about 15 new bowls made that I need to put up. I decided to do that today. I got one done and my feet got cold (too much sitting in the partially heated basement where my photo studio is located). I took a break and went for a walk outside since it has warmed up to 32F from 15F. When I got back, it was time for lunch. After lunch, the internet went down. Spectrum estimates it will be back up by 6:30 PM.
The best laid plans….
I usually make 2-3 bowls per day and I work seven days a week. This time of year, I make a lot of green bowls (bowls made from freshly cut trees). I have a friend that owns a tree service and he brings me fresh logs from trees that he has been hired to remove. I have southern maple, sugar maple, cherry, walnut, river birch, poplar and sweet gum logs on the yard. Green bowls need to dry for 8-12 months before they can be finish turned. Yes, green bowls must be turned twice.
I’m a little overwhelmed by my good fortune but I will get to most of it before summer.
