This big leaf maple burl wood bowl is made from a burl cap, the crown of a burl. Big leaf maple comes from the Pacific Northwest, primarily Oregon. Burls can weigh hundreds of pounds and can be harvested from a live tree. I’ve had this one for 10 years or better and just got around to making a bowl out of it. This bowl is very thin, about 1/8” and is light as a feather. This bowl has a food safe, natural, oil finish.
