#2523 Birdseye Maple Wooden Ring Bowl 4 3/4" x 1 3/4"
This lovely small birdseye maple wooden bowl has a repaired crack that runs through the bottom of the bowl. This bowl was cut from a veneer core. Veneer logs are peeled on a big machine that has a knife that peels very thin layers of veneer from a rotating log. They cut a slice into the log lengthwise first so each rotation yields a sheet of veneer. When the log is too small in diameter to make sheets the “core” is removed from the machine. Veneer logs are the very highest quality logs and the remaining cores are highly prized for their outstanding figure. I have bought quite a few over the years. This thin walled bowl has a rounded , curved taper, undercut rim and a small raised foot. It has a food safe, natural, oil finish.
