#2652 Quilted Redwood Wooden Bowl (11 1/2" x 2 1/4")
This striking redwood burl wooden bowl has fantastic quilt figure. The figure is chatoyant, like a cat’s eye marble, and seems to jump off the surface when you turn it in the light. This piece of wood was purchased in an auction in 2012. Redwood is difficult to turn because it has alternately soft and hard ribs in the growth rings. I’ve gotten better at turning redwood over the years but it takes very sharp tools, very thin cuts and the patience of Job. Here is my latest piece. This bowl has a rounded, curved taper, undercut rim and a raised foot. It has a food safe, natural, oil finish.
