#1851-3 Huge Spalted Ambrosia Maple Wooden Salad Bowl 20 3/8" x 6 1/4" Maple Salad Bowl Maple Bowl
This very big, deep bowl has spectacular color and figure and it will hold a ton of salad. It has a slightly tapered, undercut rim and a raised foot. This bowl is the largest of a 3 bowl set cored out of a single block of wood. A very big block of wood. I used an engine hoist to lift the very wet, green, log section onto the lathe and then used a coring tool to cut out two bowls from the middle of this one.
Ambrosia maple gets it's name from the Ambrosia Beetle. The beetle bores into the tree and leaves a fungus in it's wake. Don't worry. I soak all of my "green" (freshly turned) bowls in denatured alcohol for 3-5 days before I wax them and wrap them in paper to dry. The alcohol sterilizes the wood and drives some of the water out so the green bowl will dry with less stress.
Give this very big wood bowl as a wedding gift or a housewarming gift.
I have over 300 reviews from customers and every one is 5 stars.
Food safe, natural. oil finish.
