Happy Birthday Stephen

One of the smartest things I’ve done in my life was marry Pennie Mathewson in 1976. We decided to wait a bit before having children but we talked about it a lot during those first few years. Pennie was one of six kids and had five step-siblings. I had two sisters. Pennie decided that we should have twelve kids. I thought two was the environmentally sensible choice.

Four years later we had Nathan in 1980. Stephen followed in 1981, Sarah in 1983 and Dianna in 1985. After Dianna was born, Pennie decided that twelve was a few too many and that four was just right. So four it was.

Several years later, Pennie and I were watching the kids playing in the yard. Pennie turned to me and asked which two I wanted to send back! The answer then is still true today, on Stephen’s 38th birthday, none of them.

Happy Birthday Stephen!
