Slowly But Surely
After a very long spring and summer with very little time in the shop, I was able to work a full day there today. I’m not cleared for heavy lifting until the 24th but I can do other things. I even turned a green walnut bowl today. Unfortunately it was full of stress cracks. The person that brought me the wood kept it too long before bringing it to me to be turned. The wood is beautiful but the bowl is going to have a lot of super glue holding it together.
Below is a very big maple bowl that I started turning last year. A client that bought a huge walnut bowl from me several years ago asked me if I had any new big ones. This one is 9” X 22”. That’s pretty big. My son Nathan had to carry it to the extension table on my saw so I could take pictures to show the client. I’m not allowed to carry anything heavy yet. I need to finish sand it and make a fixture to hold it so I can turn the bottom foot. I will jam chuck it on the big late to do that.
It’s been a very slow season in the shop because I haven’t been putting any new items up on the websites. I will run a Black Friday sale later this month. I hope that opens the order spigot. I have over 150 items up on the websites to sell and will add as many more as I can in the coming days in time to ship for Christmas. Please take a look and see if any of my items match your Christmas list!
It will be another couple of weeks before I get my full strength back but at least I can see again. That is a big plus.
